Weather Or Not: A One-Act Play About Going With the Flow (or Snow)

Posted By Tempest

Setting: Tempest and her sister, Ruby, on the phone during yet another snowstorm during the winter of 2012 – 2013

Tempest: Who do I have to sleep with to stop this unrelenting snow crap!?

Ruby: I believe you have to sleep with Thunder per your marital contract.  If, however, he has some power over the Snow Deities, I will sleep with him.  Hell, I will get a list of people together to sleep with him.

Te: What a nice birthday present! I’ll tell him. Then I will wait for the terror to spread across his face when he realizes that whether it’s you in particular or just people you find for him, he’ll never escape the insanity that is our family and friends. He’s been pulled in without hope – like a Death Star tractor beam… By the way, I have 4 inches of new snow here this morning on the grass and deck, but roads are perfectly clear and fine. What gives?

Ru: I find it’s best not to ask too many questions about the ‘why’ of weather.  If Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, I gracefully accept that we’ll have six more weeks of winter.

Te: See, see, right there…that’s the kind of crazy that makes Thunder wonder what kinds of amulets or crystals I used in roping him in.

Ru: Are you saying you don’t believe Phil?

Te: Of course I believe Phil!  I got up on a cold February morning just like you did to watch him on television.

Ru: Okay, well I’m not the only branch on the insanity tree.  Since you’re older than I am, I’m thinking that you wiped your crazy all over me when I was a baby.  I’m only second-hand crazy.

Te: So what you’re really saying is that no matter who I sleep with, we’re stuck with more winter.

Ru: Yep, just wrap a blanket around the two of you and get through it…just like Prom night.

Te: *sigh*
